Multimedia Slideshow Guidelines/Essential Questions

Part I should be answered as numbered questions.  Part II should be answered in a short narrative of no more than 300 words, but no less than 200.  Part III is provided merely as a checklist for student and teacher review.

I-Subject

Subject of Slideshow How well does your finished product relate to the viewer about the purpose of the slideshow, organization of ideas, and images?  Below are listed the essential questions to assess student domain knowledge & to guide practice.

What is the intended audience?

What are the main ideas and how do they relate to the project’s overall theme?  (Think of self, friends, media or pop culture, locale, architecture, sports, nature or other themes of personal interest)

In transitions created using audio & animation, please choose three each &explain briefly your goal for communication to establish clarity of purpose in each segue way.  Think of settings, subjects, mood, and plot etc

II-Composition

Composition of shots- What considerations were made in capturing your footage? Below are listed the essential questions to assess student domain knowledge & guide practice.

Explain how each of the terms in bold was used in a compositional assessment of no more than 300 words, but no less than 200.

  1. For methods of capturing your images, especially perspective, line, texture, setting, pose (if portrait), contrast, scale, skew, length of time for segue way (building your slideshow); (Be brief, but cite a minimum of one example for each of the bold terms.)

  1. Face-framing, perspective, and relevant detail in subject, adequate or appropriate headroom, & texture of subject. As you complete the slideshow and your images are merged, segued, and overlapped, faded in/out etc explain the creative progression from raw images to finished product.  (Be brief, but cite a minimum of one example for each of the bold terms.)

Use of rule of thirds, emphasis, direction, balance, contrast, focal point, etc.  Explain (Under part II on the student evaluation form) in ten words how each shot benefited compositionally according the use of a minimum of 5 applicable design principles.  Comments on use of (elements & principles) color, texture, unity, line, depth of field, variety, & perspective may also be considered. (Be brief, but cite a minimum of one example for each of the bold terms.)

A more in depth list of principles may be found here: http://www.designconsolidated.com.au/graphic-design-principles/presentation.htm on tab 3c and also here: http://www.slideshare.net/erinsmith.art/principles-of-design-252201

III-Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship- Explain what was accomplished in terms of your ability to edit and combine specific elements into a finished product.  How well do the following elements contribute to the overall success of your piece?

  1. Credits/Title- There must be both a title & credit component and both must be executed with attention to instructions found here:

http://www.markboulton.co.uk/journal/comments/five_simple_steps_to_better_typography/

   1. Measure the measure

   2. Hanging punctuation

   3. Ligatures

   4. Typographic Hierarchy - size

   5. Typographic Hierarchy – weight

Credits are a great place to cite any copyrighted material.  Please make sure to embed your purpose statementin opening credits.

  1. A minimum of 80 slides must be included.  50 images must be your own, with any number taken from alternate sources.  Please abide by copyright/fair use laws.  No credit will be given for a project that does not incorporate citations for non-original images.

  1. Content & Overall Construction of Slideshow must result in the inclusion of 30% of slides with typographic elements, created in Adobe Photoshop or a similar program.  (E.g. if there are 80 slides, a minimum of 24 slides must have some form of typographic element and repetitive elements do not count, they must be sequential)

  1. Animation & Segueing Parts of Slideshow.  There must be a minimum of 5 animated segments and 3 audio clips embedded in the project.  What are your goals for creating and segueing between specific and overall content?

Audio Rules- Audio is creatively produced and background audio is kept in balance and does not overpower the primary audio.  All non-original, copyrighted audio used is referred to in credits and/or reference sheet.  Voice-overs and other forms of audio are well overlapped, segued and timed.

  1. Supplemental Material- Includes the rubric response sheet, raw footage, or a link to it if footage, trailer or video is uploaded to website (such as youtube)

  1. Notes on Length of Feature - Length of feature is very important to the success of the piece, according to the length submitted, grades are listed for features in the designated time periods below & will determine overall success of project.

Footage after final edit must total   5 minutes  - A/B

    3 minutes   - C

    1 minutes   - D/F

At the time of final presentation, ppt or similar file, should be delivered, but project may be played from youtube or similar site such as http://www.slideshare.net/
